Mūlamadhyamaka-kārikā 1.1


na svato nāpi parato na 
dvābhyāṃ nāpy ahetutaḥ |
utpannā jātu vidyante 
bhāvāḥ kva cana ke cana ||

Not from self, nor from other, nor from both, or for no reason;
Are any beings found to arise anywhere.
